Do a voltage check on the O2 sensor to be sure it is fluctuating while idling. If it is stuck at one voltage reading, then the O2 sensor is bad. A bad fuel mixture can cause smoking like you report.
Another area to check is the vacuum hose with the hot water line running through it. I had one that was cracked and it made the car smoke like it was blowing oil by the rings. The oil turned all milky too from too much condensation.
My most recent smoking episode was coolant and it turned out to be a cracked head.
