One thing I forgot to mention was to take the negative cable off the battery and wait 10 seconds. This is after you've gone through and set everything up. Then reconnect it and set the timing.
It's possible that two things are going on here.....the ECU is thinking the same way as it was when the throttle body was dirty, ie the idle fueling may be different. And, your ignition timing might be advanced too much to compensate for other deficiencies.
Make sure that the little set screw is contacting the throttle stop so all it's doing is just keeping the throttle plate from going over center. It's not for "setting the idle". In fact, back it all the way out, so it's not opening the throttle plate at all, then just screw it in so it contacts the stop, and by hand see that it isn't sticky. Go clockwise the minimum amount until it just starts to move and back it out, check for the overcenter stickyness.....correct as needed.
I feel your pain.....it is possible to control the beast. The last thing I did along with 20 other things on a 88 SPG is to replace the NTC. Finally, now the idle is rock solid and after sitting for three weeks, it started and held an idle, and no high idle. So, it can be fixed. Keep after it....
