It started with a 77EMS, my second car and first Saab. My mechanic buddy convinced me to buy a Saab, and I tried to blow it up every chance I got. It took me a few years, but redlining one hot day and popping the clutch eventually blew the motor.....James Bond smoke screen out the tail pipe!
...on to the 74EMS(picture), which I drove every day from about 1988 to 1994. It got placed on blocks in the garage awaiting a restoration for 6 years, but it never got finished. Rust took its body, but its soul still lives. The interior and fuel injection parts are in my current garage queen - 73EMS. I absolutely loved that 74, and as it sat on blocks, I longed for the day when I could drive it again. That's what drove my passion when I restored the 73, cus these cars are a blast to drive.
Others I have owned and/or driven - 71 99E 4dr, 73EMS in copper coral, 74LE(my mechanic buddy's first Saab, which was really fast and tight), 77GLE(I think it was a 5dr), 78GLE - never cared for the automatic, but loved the interior, 76GL - which was converted from auto to manual with power steering < unbelievably fast car, 75EMS which I restored a few years back, but never grew attached to it enough to keep it. There were a few more, but my memory is fading. At least a dozen were purchased, driven to the shop, then eventually parted out.
BTW Larry, I think your 76 was laguna blue. A fine example of carolina blue is linked.
