I've looked what I could find about ethanol and valve recession on the web and apparently the only sources that make a link between the two are the sellers of fuel additivel but there is no real evidence to back their claims... The usual commercial blah, I guess!
I guess it won't hurt to add additive for other potential benefits, but I'll be monitoring valve clearances closely. My understanding was that all Saab engines had unleaded fuel-resistant seats installed from 1975 at least when lead was outlawed in the US. I would be surprised if they had different versions for european markets like mine so I think my engine should already be lead-free capable...
Next time I have to pull the head, I'll be starting fresh from a better core - mine has a million km on it and from what I see it's been worked on before. Not sure about the valve seats, tho.
