BAAB, I know that folks have used the lambda set up on the earlier filter housing/sensor plate arrangements and have even suggested that it allows them to upgrade other bits to achieve greater power- much like those with later LH systems trying larger AMMs or just simply installing a larger intake. I don't really understand the detailed physics of the set up so I can go beyond the fact that I've seen it done and the cars ran fine. Keep soaking that original FD as IIRC the first cleaning you gave it helped out a lot.
You're a trooper, brother. hang in there. There has to be something messing with the original FD. Looking at the diagrams in the manual and retracing the lines from the injector that was originally always leaking may help you pinpoint a gummed up area to focus on. You'll probably notice that the plunger on the later FD has a slightly different shape than the original. I don't remember if they protruded differently, though, and I know that the roller the things rests on should be the same. Larry, I believe, might be correct in suggesting that with the smaller plate there would needs be greater lift to have the same amount of air but they don't lift all that much to begin with and after very little lift the difference in air flow becomes insignificant and the sensor plate would stay in place. Full throttle will always be full throttle. Maybe the smaller plate allowed for quicker responses with respect to fuel?
