Ok,
this has almost always worked for me. I never *EVER* just pay the ticket. All you'll get for that is higher auto insurance. For about $70-$100 bucks you can hire a lawyer to go to court for you. 99% of the time you won't get points on your record. They can also argue down the charges with the state court.
Another way to go (this is what my wife and I do), is to get PrePaid Legal Services (my wife sells it if you're interested). We pay about $25 bucks a month, but we're covered for just about anything. They go to court for you for free (for traffic violations) and they review legal documents (for example loans documents, etc) and they write letters on your behalf for free if you're having trouble with someone (like when we had trouble with Home Depot installing our carpets. We also get other services like a free Will every year, so it's not pad.
It saved my Butt 2 months ago when I got caught with 90mph in a 70mph. I paid $155 bucks in court fees, but hey, no increase in insurance.
I'm not trying to sell you Prepaid insurance, that's not the point, the point is: fight the ticket. Don't just pay it and have your insurance rates increase.
Good Luck!!
Ali
