Then just go straight for the minivan

If they're thinking a minivan is in their future, then why not just skip the wagon and go straight for it? Sliding doors and higher floors make for very easy loading of kids into car seats, and it takes a lot of gear to travel around with infants.
The Toyota Sienna comes in AWD. Our FWD Odyssey does great in the snow with snow tires - heavy FWD gives lots of traction.
As an ex-subaru owner, I must say I like the cars, but that back seat is narrow and doesn't offer a lot of room for car seats.
