Minivans are nice, but the problem is that you have to drive them in public.(haha).
No matter how much space you have, you'll fill it.
Even Suburban/Excursion owners say they don't have enough space. If you just drop the gigantic McLaren double stroller and get a couple umbrella strollers, and be reasonable with what you take along, a 9-3 or 9-5 wagon should work fine.
It is nice to have a minivan when you have to carry extra people (try squeezing an adult between two carseats in the back of your Saab), but the problem is that these occasions are 2-3 times per year for us, and then the rest of the year we'd have to drive around in a minivan for little benefit. When we need this, we just rent a minivan for a week.
Minivans and SUV's are great for people other than my wife and I (and our 2 kids). But for us the Saab/Volvo wagons have been plenty sufficient, and we don't have to sacrifice performance, driving pleasure, handling, and fuel economy (especially vs SUVs).
Just one guy's opinion. Sorry, the "get a grip" comment touched a nerve.
