I agree with others that your 3 options are pretty unappealing... though if you're ok with a little larger, newer, and more expensive, Ford Freestyle is somewhere between a wagon, suv, and minivan... one of the original crossovers... where you were thinking Taurus (it was renamed Taurus)... we rented one once + it wasn't bad for what it is...
the audis seem pretty rust resistant but repair can be costly without diy. I don't know what your budget is, but V70 1998 + earlier is a pretty safe bet. We also live in the rust belt + they hold up pretty well... trouble is people who own good ones tend to keep them forever.
wrt subies, see NoSnaab's comments in the thread below re reliability. A friend of mine is ditching her 2001 impreza because of a bad HG (apparently costs a bloody fortune to fix on those cars + was common in that vintage - all models use the same engines btw, just a 4 and a 6 + turbos)... + unless you get a stick, a Subie with the non-turbo 4 gets poor fuel economy + is not great to drive on the highway! Think 3 speed c900... a used subie will cost as much as a Saab... so will a used Honda Civic, btw!
Why not own 2 9-5's? then you can swap parts if need be... other than that, I'd look at Audi + Volvo (+ maybe VW) first, and maybe bmw, depending on budget + what's available...
