5,000 mile OCI..... Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Thu, 22 Feb 2007 16:16:56 In Reply to: Re: Offline response....., Alexf115, Wed, 21 Feb 2007 09:23:20 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Still have the original turbo at 191,000+ miles, but so does the 1,000,000 mile Saab!
I use synthetic oil, typically Mobil 1, and change the filter at every oil change. My current oil weight is 5W/40 Turbo Diesel Truck and SUV, but was 10W/30 (as per owner's manual) when car was new, then changed to 0W/40, and now 5W/40.
When I can't find Mobil 1, I buy shell Rotella-T synthetic in the same weight (75% of M1 cost). If neither were available locally I would buy Amsoil on-line using their good customer discount - about the same price as Mobil 1.
On the 9-3SC the best filter/cost option is the OEM Saab filter at about $8 each at the Dealer. A/C Delco and Purolator filters for this engine are both close to $10 each locally - and are very difficult to find. On my 9-5 I use Motorcraft FL400S filters (made by Purolator) at only $3 to $4 each eventhough they have Ford Motor Company printed all over them.
Regular oil and filter changes, high quality oil, and perform all service at recommended intervals should yield long life of your engine.
