Hi Swedecar,
No problem. if I needed you sooner, I would have called... :-)
And you're right : it was the ABS/TCS/ESP module. I did replace it last week-end, and everything is perfect now. No more codes and all.
I discovered a couple interesting things in the repair.
- The dismounting of the module from the ABS/ESP hydraulic unit is kinda tricky. Event when unbolted and moved to the max toward the turbo, space is VERY limited (shock tower is in the way) to unscrew the bottom rear Torx-headed screw. I had to fabricate a custom tool to access it : I used a very short Torx bit from a DeWalt tool kit, I grinded it even shorter (about 12 mm overall) and I wedged it into a 1/4 in closed-end wrench with some tape. I then slowly unscrewed the bolt 1/6th of a turn at the time. Very annoying!
- Before doing that, I tested the used module solo by plugging it and starting the car. I had the various error messages on SID, so it didn't look to be a direct fit (no-Tech2 needed) job. Since I have now a fully functionnal Tech2, I was happy to use it to program the used module to my car. But then, after all was bolted back in place, I started the car and... no more error messages! Everything was perfect. Damn! No need for the Tech2! Knowing that, I would have try it sooner!
- But in fact, Tech2 is still useful to me, just to clear the error codes memorized from the previous failing module. More, after a few days without any codes, I rechecked nonetheless and found a code about a missing module "U2106 TCM missing on bus". I figured that this code was there because the ABS/ESP module was from an automatic car, and mine's a manual. So I decided to add/remove (reflash?) the ABS/ESP module, even if I never did this before. Everything turned out fine, my only caveat was when Tech2 asked numerous questions about the car, one of which I didn't know the answer for (MT6 gearbox complete code). Since there is no module in the MT I just followed Tech2 suggestion, and used the code that was there by default.
Car is back to normal, and I played with Tech2 a bit: I am now able to cut an injector for diagnostic, program the seat belt warning beep, or (maybe?) deactivate TPMS sensors for when I'll mount the studded snows for my ice lapping sessions in January. It is a cool tool to have for sure.
Thanks everyone,
