I was able to get mine out from the top. Remove engine mount and jack up the engine a bit with a wood pad under the sump.
It did feel like a total hack and was a real PITA job. Not as bad as a C900 steering rack but getting there!
I did not remove the crank pulley but I think that might be how the pros to it - probably much easier on a lift!
If helps the last time I did the belt I gave in and bought one of the skinny Craftsman wrenches. Makes it an almost trivial job.
