Tech2 Alternatives for Steering Column Lock Posted by BadgerBuddha [Email] (#2199) [Profile/Gallery] (more from BadgerBuddha) on Fri, 19 Nov 2021 14:21:24 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Hi everyone,
I'm on my third steering column lock of the year on my 9-3.
The first time around, in January, I replaced the ISM with no results. So I had it towed to Mile High Saab, and they had found some vinyl had jammed into the working, they pulled it out and also noticed the keys were not properly synced with the CIM so they did both.
It came back about two weeks later in February and it turned out the Steering Column Lock had gone. They replaced it with a known good unit, and that settled that.
Unfortunately, the other day it got cold for the first time in a while and the Steering Column Lock issue came up again. So now I am totally stuck with an inoperable car. I've tried removing the battery and the fuse but unfortunately neither of those really did much. I'm hoping its not a case of the lock having gone out again, and I want to know for sure what is wrong and what I need to do to fix it.
Unfortunately, I don't know anyone with a Tech2 at the moment and I don't really want to pay to have it towed to the only Saab shop near me to have them diagnose it and then replace it, I'd ideally like to figure out the issue myself and see if its something I can do in my small garage.
I know the tech 2 is like $200-300 from China now, but are there any alternatives that can meet what the Tech 2 can do (that I could maybe get faster)?
