That sounds very fun!
It looks like someone has written an emulator for whatever dinky processor/environment the tech2 runs on so that you can load and boot the original GM/Saab software without the iffy knocked off hardware!
The CANDI box we use for the OEM/Clone tech2 is probably just a CAN to serial logic level converter, so if the OBD2-USB in the emulation fools the GM software it should just work. I do not know much about the specifics of the non serial pins on the connector.
From what I remember (been a while since I've even needed mine!) the Tech2 uses a low speed RS232 to talk to the PC application that does the security access so there is a shot of that working too as it is the regular Saab/GM software running. Possibly running it in a separate VM.
Do post your results!
Would be very nice to have a linux boot image with the various vm's set up and ready to go for everyone else wanting to do this. I do use WinXP under Ubuntu for ancient FPGA tools and it works great. Worth considering doing it that way rather than VirtualBox or something under Win10 when you get to that point for the Security Access.
