On my 2005 Arc Sedan the RDS setting works great on most radio stations, especially PBS.
I think from what Anders said the 2006 may have the same fiber optic cabled entertainment setup, so you probably have this.
Have never checked to see if it sets the date too but it looks like it is mandatory for CT in the spec. Saves all the knob twiddling when the clocks change! It takes a few seconds to update the clock when you select it in the menu
There are specialist lubricant/cleaners for potentiometers on vintage stereo systems but I sure would have expected this to be an opto-encoder.
Mine is closing in on 220K miles/one owner so you have a lot of miles to go! Pretty much a trouble free car. Water pump, 10 years ago, the only "major" item. I don't count the silly stuff like window regulators etc. Still on its original AC charge and exhaust too.
