Thanks for the suggestion of RDS. I hadn’t thought about that as our other Saabs are 9-5s without that capability, but we have several PBS stations that would probably broadcast that and avoid the fiddling. I was also wondering about it being something other than a potentiometer which might explain the odd behavior. Your car does seem quite reliable and my Saab Master Tech recommended the 9-3 2.0 as he has quite a few in his family. He replaced the balance shaft chain guides and tensioner right after I bought the car but I had not noticed the slight vibration he detected caused by the loose chain, which may have even.slipped a notch. I believe that may be a common problem in older 2.0 9-3s, but one that is easily fixed. Now it is as smooth as can be and the car is great to drive in general. It’s amazing to me that you can carry on a normal conversation in a convertible with the top down. I’m looking forward to many years of use as I’ll never get to your mileage with a car I only drive in warmer months.
