Recently bought a '99 9-5 SE lpt 5-speed. Admittedly, it serves as my snow/rain/daily driver. It's my first Saab and I love it. My other car (not snow/rain/daily) is an '02 MB C230 coupe. Bought the Mercedes new and it now has 20k miles. The Saab has about 115k (only about the last 6k of which are mine).

Interesting how the Saab compares to the Mercedes as well as some of my other past cars. The Saab has a nice, balanced, breezy overall driving feel which is a stark contrast to the low-slung, almost tank-like heft of the Mercedes. Don't really prefer one over the other and the difference is mostly apparent after driving one for a week or so and then switching. Both cars are comfortable and great on the road. The Saab seems to be a lot quieter, slightly more comfortable interior (better space management, IMHO), a little better ride (larger car/w higher profile tires). In short, a different (but not better) beast.

Much of the same can be said when comparing the 9-5 to the '97 Volvo 850 I used to have. Saab's got more space, more comfort, lighter feel (steering, dynamics, seating position, etc.).

Shouldn't be difficult at all to make the transition from Jetta to Saab. The biggest difference will probably be a seemingly great increase in space as well as a different driving dynamic that you'll quickly come to know and love.
