The most boost.... Posted by Karl [Email] (#161) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Karl) on Thu, 30 Nov 2000 05:31:39 In Reply to: What a great thread!, Magellan, Wed, 29 Nov 2000 21:52:06 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Well,
Who has the most boost really isn't that interesting... There are many more factors that are more important for performance than boost.
But I can add that my current boost is 1,5 bar max @ 4000 rpm, which i believe equates to just over 21,5 PSI. Boost tapers off to 1,17 bar (almost 17 PSI) @ 5500 rpm.
There are, however, significantly more modified 9K's running a lot more boost than I am. Mine is definetely in danger of generating "un-wholesome" EGT levels.
A friend of mine has a '94 9K with a Garrett T04B turbo, bigger IC mounted in front of the radiator, bigger injectors, all pipes upgraded etc etc as well as a Quaife-LSD. He runs 2,2 bar max (almost 32 PSI) and 1,4-1,5 bar @ 5500 rpm (20-21 PSI). Needless to say, that car is F-A-S-T... Power is somewhere in the 340-350 region. It's also his daily driver, and he commutes over 60 miles (roundtrip) to and from work... Fuel consumption is lower than a standard Aero during normal driving conditions.
Saabs are outstanding when it comes to engine performance, "tunability" and reliability. If only we could get gearboxes, suspension and AWD to match...
