Yes no doubt about it, the 540i is faster at SEA LEVEL.
As I live at 1000 feet altitude and as I often drive higher
then that, I can say as I verified this that the 540i is
not faster once you're running in 3rd gear and above. And
at altitude the large high compression engine loses power
very quick.
So on the freeway my Aero has no problems keeping up with
a 540i, at altitude in the mountains, the 540i stop keeping
up with my Aero at around 3500 feet.
As to 0-60 times, nice but how often do you do 0-60s on the
freeway ? And on a mountain road the 540i is not fast enough
to be able to pass an Aero until he reaches the altitude where
the Aero pulls away anyways.
So I guess depending where you live the Aero or the 540i will
be the faster ride.
This summer I once went to St Moritz, and it was outright funny
to see how my Aero was pulling away from all cars at 6'000 feet
of altitude :) I could still pass em in a blink when they no
longer had the power to do some agressive overtaking.
Oh well, the only way you would believe me is to drive an Aero
at above 5000 feet and then to drive a 540i, then compare this
with Sea Level performance, there is a hudge difference.
Regards,
Coolknight
