Initially, on a whim I was looked at the base 9-5. Don't take this wrong all you non Aero owners, but I found the base model to be substantially slower than I wanted and the suspension was also softer. Considering that I insisited on having a manual transmission, the SE was out. I decided that the Aero was out of my price range but the salesman insisted I drive it. How could I say no??? Initially, it just felt better but didn't seem that much faster. It wasn't until I looked down and realized how fast I was really moving that it hit me how good the Aero package really is. The suspension handled substantially better and it was definitely fast enough.
Having had the car for 9000 miles now, I'm still impressed by the build quality. It's darn fast, sometimes surprising me. I find that it has a fair bit of body roll but its limit is high. I believe it probably sacrifices some absolute cornering ability in the name of communication.
If you need more power, check out http://www.saabtuning.com. Everytime I see Norm post, I'm struck with small pangs of jealousy for his Nordic Aero. I'll have to wait a couple years before I consider doing that but I sure want to!
