In My Humble Opinion.....after 20+ Saab's Posted by Herb Hirsch [Email] (#114) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Herb Hirsch) on Tue, 26 Dec 2006 06:46:43 In Reply to: Long-time Saaber Needs a New Car, Julia, Tue, 26 Dec 2006 04:50:06 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I've been driving new Saab's since 1967. Now, I have a 2000 9-5 Aero with 267K miles, and my wife has a 2004 9-5 ARC with 40K miles.
For the record I had a 1993 9000 that I sold at 200K miles. It was one of four 9000's I owned and had a good experience with.
Saab's will last 200K miles and a lot more with only appropriate maintenance as Saab recommends. The notion that 9-5's are a problem and require lot of maintenance is simply false. With scheduled maintenance they're a reliable car. If your indie dislikes them so much perhaps you should find an indie that has training, experience, and understands the car.
Your concern about the smell of exhaust gases in the car is appropriate. A component of exhaust gas is carbon monoxide which is odorless, invisible, and deadly.
If you tell us what state/area you live in perhaps we could point you to an indie or other source that knows how to service the 9-5...and has the competency to fix the exhaust leak. I would not replace your 9000 because of an undiagnosed problem; get a sound diagnosis then repair or replace based upon the cost of repair and other factors.
