Well, I have a '01 Aero, and it has had a few quirks (bad wheel bearing, DIC, SID, and Map sensor that were all covered under CPO), but overall it is a great car that I would buy again. Solid, super safe, and fun to drive. That being said, I would recommend finding an '02 since they made quite a few updates to the suspension, exterior, and a few other improvements. I have seen super clean '02s selling for $14k recently. Of course you could probaby find a really nice '00 for $9k.
Just make sure to get it checked out by your indy AND/OR get the maintenance records. As with any marque and model, it's reliability all depends on how it was maintained since new. If the current owner doesnt have records, then they probably didnt care enough to get the work done (IMO). My CPO came with all records, and I continue to maintain the records (I do some of my own maint also, and keep it all logged).
Also, if you really really like your 9k, then it is worth keeping it running...because buying a "new" car is still more expensive than repairing one that you know and love...
