I've owned a few C900s then a 9000 Aero, and recently bought a gently used '01 Aero. I love the car.
there are some similarities
to the 900:
- the clamshell hood style is reminiscent (although the 9-5 opens traditionally)
- key, stalk controls (cruise, wipers, high beam) all work virtually the same
- the turn signals retain that crappy feel!
to the 9000
- the SID mimics the EDU (when the SID is working that is!)
- aircraft style interior light & fasten seatbelt sign
- turn signals retain that crappy feel!
There are plenty of quirks and subtle brilliant touches in the 9-5 (as in all Saab's) that endear us to these cars.
I find the C900 easiest to work on. The 9000 harder since it is more cramped and more things to move out of the way. The 9-5 is even more cramped, and there are even more things in the way. But I am getting used to it, and the cramped spaces can often justify buying a new tool or gizmo (which is a plus)
the 9-5 is very quiet, safe and powerful. its a wonderful car to drive on long trips and around town.
I Find the c900 beautiful. Most of my friends thought it was butt ugly.
I find the 9000 beautiful, and some agree. but most think its "ok"
I find the 9-5 beautiful and most people agree.
I find the 9-5 very reliable. Yes it has a few known issues. This board can guide you through those.
Get the 9-5. You will love it. It will grow on your indy too.
btw 9000 with 131k mi is little more than "just broken in", although you might see a repair bill "spike" at this point, once sorted out it should be reliable for a long time to come.
oh and don't drive around with an exhaust smell in the cabin.
