I own an 01 9-5 SE (V6). I bought it 2 years ago with 37,000 miles on it. It's very similar to the Arc (same exact engine for example).
I was also concerned about maintenance costs so I purchased an independent bumper to bumper extended warranty for peace of mind. 22,000 miles later I'm still waiting for the opportunity to use it.
This is the first car I've ever owned where I can open the sun roof on a blue summer day and go screaming down the freeway with the tunes playing. Most other cars get way too much wind in the cabin or too much wind noise, not the 9-5.
There are only a few key problems that might prop up. They're all will known and discussed on this board. So the impression that you'll have a random array of random mechanical problems with these cars is complete bunk.
I've rented the new Dodge Charger, the new Nissan Maxima with continuous shift, and the Caddy CTS. I prefer my Saab to all of these, with the Caddy a very close 2nd.
