Between those two, I would choose the 2003 with the V6. I've got a 2001 V6 sedan which has proven to be pretty reliable. I've got 175k miles on mine, and it has thrown a few expensive repairs at me, but the way the car drives makes up for everything. Between the 2001 Aero engine and the V6, the V6 is more reliable. On the 2001 I would have a Saab mechanic take the camshaft cover or oil pan off to inspect for sludge, which will put you out of an engine. The V6 is pretty much immune from sludge so no worries there. As long as you keep up with the timing belt and its tensioners every 60k miles it's an excellent engine. I would recommend checking out Edmunds and looking in the used car section under research and specs and look at the customer reviews on the 2001 Aero and the 2003 Arc. They favor pretty heavily the V6, and I cannot disagree.
