Well, the advice might be practical, but it's still bad advice (no offense intended). I did exactly what you were thinking of for my daughter going to college this fall: got her a 1999 2.3lpt 9-5. This is my daughter's LIFE we are talking about. I've seen enough accidents in japo-mobiles to know that I wouldn't trust her life with anything but a Saab or a Volvo. If (God Forbid) she's ever in an accident, you won't care about those extra repair costs or inconvenience. Trust me.
