Saab list price is a complete myth and has gone up & down over the years. New '08 list is about $44k, but very few sell at that cost. My local overpriced dealer currently has a new '08 wagon at $38k and you'd buy it for less than that. You need to compare current value with actual selling price rather than list price. In the last three years pricing on used 9-5s has come WAY down - a big part of that is a drop in 'list price' by close to $10k during that time.
Having said that $10k CDN for an '05 is a pretty good price. Did it ever have the 100k maintenance done? I recently looked at an '05 that needed $2500 in deferred maintenance caught up. SERVICE RECORDS. Do not buy a car that has not been well looked after.
Fortunately you have Aktive Motors in TO. Give 'em a hundred bucks for a thorough prepurchase inspection and use them or another good indy for maintenance later. I have only the dealer ($$$$) here in Winnipeg for service - I do everything myself.
Maintenance costs WILL be higher than Japanese. But room, safety, comfort, exclusivity, driving pleasure all make it worth it.
