We have a 9-5 Linear SportWagon(our 4th Saab) and it's been excellent for the past 38K miles. We got it at 40K and it's now at 78K. A few minor things have been needed, but nothing out of the ordinary. These are solid reliable cars that can go the distance.
It's important to understand the 9-5 is an upscale European car that will require more care and attention to scheduled maintenance than a domestic or a Japanese car. But if you do take care of it you'll have a car that lasts a long time and is always a pleasure to drive, especially on long trips.
Be sure you get a car with a known service history (especially oil changes) and that has been cared for and you'll be good to go for a long while. A Saab is somewhat more expensive to own than say, a Toyota or Subarau, but not onerously so, but stay away from the dealer and go to a good indy shop. And DIY all the stuff you're comfortable doing.
