I've noticed used 9-5's have been dropping in price (at least in Toronto) over the past year or so. They are nice cars and can be very reliable if well maintained (but do require more care than Hondas). Search this board for more info on what to look for buying used and get records if you can (but regardless, get a prepurchase inspection at a Saab indy). The automatic is very good, but if you really want a stick, they come up pretty often - the seller will refer to them as "rare" but Saab enthusiast used dealers like Lang are looking for them so they come up pretty often... usually in Aero form...
$10k for a 2005 Arc wagon is pretty good (low price because of the high mileage). Some cheaper ones I've looked at have more wear + tear inside, so it depends what you are looking for. There have been some great deals on Aeros lately as well (for some reason K-W Saab seems to always have a few)...
It will probably cost more to own than a Honda or Subaru, but not unreasonably so if you take it to a Saab indy for service. In return, it will put a smile on your face every time you drive it, and it will be very very hard to sit in a Honda or Subaru on a long trip ever again! We rented a Subaru wagon last summer, and while it's not that bad, I couldn't wait to get back in our Saab... totally different league...
good luck,
James...
