Cabin air filter from a D-I-Y'er.... The cabin air filter is located inside the HVAC box sitting atop the tunnel hump beneath the dash.
1)Remove the squarish carpeted cover on the side of the tunnel hump in the passenger footwell. Depress the center pin of the three plastic rivets with a phillips screwdriver, then pull out the rivet bodies, and remove the cover.
2) Remove the dashboard knee panel beneath the glove box. There will be a row of screws (maybe 4) visible just under the hinge point of the glove box door. Remove these. The leading edge of the knee panel is held by a single nylon clip on the firewall. Pry the two fingers apart on this nylon clip. A hole in the knee panel fits on a peg of the lower finger. With the clip fingers pried apart, slide the panel rearwards towards the passenger seat to remove. (More difficult than it sounds)
3) Remove the glove box. With the knee panel removed you will see a row of screws along the lower edge of the glove box door - remove these. Open the glove box and there will be a row of screws along the top edge of the box opening, remove these. The other screws secure the door to the box - no need to tough those. Slide the glove box half-way out of the dash, unclip the electrical wires powering the glove box light, remove the air hose supplying cool air to the glove box, then remove the glove box fully.
4) Remove the side panel on the HVAC box sitting atop the tunnel hump. I thingk there are ten 6mm hex head screws holding this cover in place. Remove screws, remove cover.
5) Extract filter from inside HVAC box. Clean out all the dirt and debris. I always use the foam strip on the new filter, then insert new filter in the HVAC box.
6) Reverse above steps to reassemble the car's interior. Total time to execute this filter change will be 45 minutes to 1 hour.
