you are so right. This one of the things that is wrong with many Saab dealers, and something that GM did not care about. How can a dealer that wants to sell anyone a new or used Saab in the future have the attitude that they are going to make all the money they can out of the repair in front of them when other strategies and repairs even legal ones from Saab are available? The dealer needs to supply a reasonable repair atmosphere to keep the customer's business and confidence.
My dealer in Santa Monica [now out of business] told me over $800 to replace the alternator, and I also needed a battery at $200 installed, and a positive cable at $225 installed. Terrific!! $1225 for repairs. I never went back and almost sold my 2001 Aero!
In the end I kept the car and found a great indy Walter Wong in West Los Angeles, and most importantly I found this site. This site gave me Walter and so much terrific information to keep my Aero going and continue to enjoy it.
