I'm interested in how it works out for you.
I got rear-ended recently when I was at a full stop. The person hit me hard enough to shove me three feet into the car in front of me so there is damage on front and back. I had to wait nearly two weeks just to get the police report (and other insurance info) and am finally getting some contact with the insurance co (Geico) of the person who hit me.
My ins co (Met Life) has already been out to look at the damage and estimated $6.5K to repair my 04 Aero.
The car is at my house and will remain there until I have the second estimate. Geico did mention over the phone that I am entitled to rental costs (or 'cash payout') covering the entire time from the incident date through final repair.
Depending on how long this takes, what other damage is found under the hood, diminished value, and whatever negotiating there is, I suspect costs could easily shoot past $8K. The car is probably worth $10K+. I may be concerned with repair vs replace when all is said and done.
