I also have a 2003 9-5, and Arc. It is my 3rd SAAB and it has 104,000 miles. Until now the only running issue has been the SIA that causes my NG light to be on. By far it is the worst of the 3 SAABs I have owned, but it is still not bad when I hear my friends dealing with their cars! They seem to continuously visit their dealer or mechanic....
My issues:
- on-going, the NG light on, I know it is the SIA...
- in winter, my passenger window refuses to open, but coming Spring, it works normally- I have not figured out that one! That's OK I talk to the gas guy through my moon roof, which makes me look like a lunatic!
- lately I have noticed that my air bag light goes on and off, turning on when I drive over a bump or pothole, but since I need new shock abs at least in the front, I am wondering whether it si not just that the sensors are sensitive,so I'll see nce I have changed the shock abs...
BTW I posted a question about the cost to change shock abs...
- My car has a long (~15, 20 sec) hick-up at low rpm acceleration when the NG is cold and then picks up normally- posted also a question about this, that's new

So if all cars were as little dependable as this worst of the bunch of SAABs that I have owned, I think there would be less mechanics! I also have to mention safety: my previous 9-5 probably saved my life when I went into spinning at 80 mph on a wet freeway a few years ago- it was the first rain after a long drought, there was so much oil on the pavement that I could even smell it inside my car... I ended up in the divider, still spinning, thought that I was going to flip over, and miraculously... the car stopped,on its 4 wheels. I got out in my high heels withmud up my ankles and covering the car over the roof- it was pretty funny! I still remember to this day the gaze of the trucker who had stopped his 18-wheeler to come check on me when I told him that I was going to drive back up the divider, which I did... amd made it to my meeting (not quite presentable though, but... what a sales argument for SAAB!). So, RIP-you have a D... reliable and safe car! Just look at what is around you on the road, that should reassure you further!
