I used to drive all manuals and switched to auto when I got my 2003 9-5.
This as I was sitting in a lot of traffic with my job at the time.
The 9-5 auto is not like autos from old cars I've driven; clunking between
gears and making a lot of noise and high revs at highways speeds. Its only of the smoothest autos I've driven and sport mode puts the fun back. I'm
happy with it although I still, sometimes, drive with my hand on the shifter.
My only gripe..the steering wheel paddles aren't very natural to shift with. They do work well but on curves I lose track we're the one I want is.
I prefer the auto shifter in the 9-3's I've driven were one uses the shifter. If Saab had ported the 9-3 shifter to the 9-5 the auto would be
110% good.
