Friends,
Please try to put your personal feelings and loyalty aside and lets think about this collectively. Much appreciated.
So, my aging and ailing 03 9-5 Aero (160K) a/k/a Landrocket has a long list of issues that have surfaced recently.
-oil leak vicinity crankcase/pump
-weeping oil cooler line
-car dumping coolant every other day
-disintegrated bushings and suspension components all around
-front shocks have 160K
-torn CV boot
-intermittent ABS module probs (although that may be b/c of the cv boot mess)
-transmission solenoids going, slip/slam
-exhaust peeling through final layer on its way out
-sludge built up and cleaned out as best as could 10K ago
-internally bent (non lip) rims which cause tremendous vibrations
I've taken care of my car meticulously until around 110K at which point I started using it to commute 100 miles per day to my job and lost a backyard to pamper and fix my baby(due to economic circumstances, I've been forced to move back to help family) and since then it's been highway miles at the crack of dawn, highway miles at night and food wrappers all over the foot wells.
Honestly, the car feels terrible, I love it but there's just so much needs to be done - new rims for starters - to make it drive as it was designed to be driven. Some time ago I made up my mind to only fix "critical" issues as they popped up but right around that time all of a sudden every issue that cropped up was critical.
In a perfect world, I just want the car to drive - however terrible it feels on the road - until I can see what the nextgen 93 will look like and get a sense of pricing.
Today, after the coolant dump, the constant earwax massage from the rims, the periodic oil topoffs, the slams into 1 and the viciously vibrating steering wheel... I'm not so sure I'll have this luxury. At best - the car needs coolant leak fixed (which BTW, is very recent and I haven't traced it), the oil pump/case leak fixed, and the badly torn and likely empty CV - this is scratching at 1K and I still have a car that feels like a bag of loose parts. At worst, well.. $2K to refurb, find some used rims (steels wont fit over Aero calipers)...doesn't even get at the suspension, then agan will need new tires soon (+$500)..and so forth...
Ideally, I would like to find a low cost lease. I'd give up being the proud owner of a car with soul that I enjoy(ed) driving and live with a generic crapbox for a while... the problem is that a 3 year lease is more than I'd like to commit to right now. That 93 - if we ever restart the production line and anotonov gets on board - is definitely in my future.
I keep hearing how leasetrader and swaplease are scam sites. Is there money to be saved in a preowned cert lease vs. a new lease? I've always purchased used cars, however, this time around that kind of transaction is certainly out of the question.
The idea of taking over someone's lease sounds VERY tempting. I could find a 12-18 month lease and get into anything really, but I've noticed that the payments these people are paying (presumably they're only asking for what they owe each month) are outrageous!! and not at all representative of what I see on lease TV ads of printed adverts....
I have impeccable credit. Thoughts? Ideas?
Thanks in advance for your time,
Regards,
Tom
