The '03 is toast. A parts car at best. This happens sometimes, life goes on.
While some here will disagree, leasing is a ridiculous way to own a car. You are basically just renting. Fine if you "need" to have a newish car all the time and don't mind having car payments forever, it usually doesn't make sense otherwise. Howevrr, it CAN be a way out as a temporary tactic for 2-3 years if you can keep the mileage down, but that can really come back to bite you. For example, if your living/work/commute situation changes again.
So.... what to do. I don't know your financial situation but if you are looking at leasing a Volvo you have some cashflow. So, since you love Saabs, how about finding a good used 9-5 or 9-3SS? There are cars available in most areas of the country, and if you can get approved for a lease you can probably get financed. Since they are afflicted with the usual Saab depreciation rate you can likely get a lot for your dollar.
