Wonder why he thought it would be a solenoid problem instead of a mechanical problem since mechanical is what the books hint at with that fault code.
Fault code 1743 is triggered if the input and output speed sensors are not agreeing at lockup mode (eg, slipping).
If you really want this car you have to plan on a transmission swap as part of the price.
Interesting enough, WIS says not to tamper with the SLT, SLU and SLS solenoids, why I don't know but I also don't do any transmission repairs due to the high chances of not improving anything and the high price involved. The shift solenoids S1-5 can be replaced but Saab don't sell them individually but only sell the whole valve body for roughly $1700.00 and with that you get all those solenoids.
Since it is a fair amount of valve body problems on the 5 speed 02 and up transmission, it is probably safer to install a whole new valve body instead of messing around with one solenoid at the time.
