If it is just the lock up solenoid and the gears are shifting fine, why on earth would I want to replace the tranny in a car that will generally be driven around town? The lockup doesn't kick in to 40 mph. It's there to help highway mpg. Spending a couple grand on a transmission buys a lot of gas. And if you are only adding 10 % to highway mpg, it will be ten years recouping the cost. The tranny is shifting fine. And now that the light is out, who knows? - maybe it was a temporary solenoid malfunction. Tranny fluid needs to be changed -- original -- but not burnt.
I have had fourteen of these cars and am well aware of what they cost to repair. But the car just drives great. The mechanics think it is in great shape but needs some maintenance. It really is a clean car in the interior and looks sharp. So we shall see if I can get it for the right price.
But like I said, to bring everything to a clean car level will require it to be bought at salvage cost (would have clear title though).
