I was a victim of UAW sabotage with my wheel bolts Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Fri, 28 Oct 2011 11:24:30 In Reply to: Seems possible that lug bolts weren't tightened, Noel, Fri, 28 Oct 2011 08:48:41 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I was visiting GM's Orion Assembly Plant about 7 years ago, left there to go to the old Saturn Engineering office closer to Detroit but only a 10 to 12 mile drive. We were almost to our destination, doing 70 MPH on I-75, when the other engineer riding with me in my 9-5 looked at me and we both said "WTH?"
Significant noise was arising from the driver's side front wheel and steering wheel vibration was beginning.
I stopped the car, we looked at the driver's side front wheel expecting to see a flat tire, but instead we were greeted by 5 finger tight lug bolts. Apparently the "finest labor in the world" took offense at having a non-UAW assembled car parked in their Visitor Lot. The wheel in question would have been completely hidden from view of any passers-by due to the parking arrangement at Orion.
Based on the sound and vibration generated by my 5 loose lug bolts the driver of the car I saw today MUST have had an indication something was wrong if their problem was bolts only.
