You can use a clamp type ammeter and not have to worry about overloading the meter. Go to eBay and look up "clamp ammeter". It clamps around the battery cable and reads current. They range in price from about $30 to $150. They'll often read from zero to 600 Amps. The current draw you have is likely 10 amps or lower, but you never know.
