Not hersay (sic), but first hand experience Posted by saabsince 93b [Email] (#972) [Profile/Gallery] (more from saabsince 93b) on Wed, 15 Aug 2012 18:09:31 In Reply to: RR tire wear is because of design, not spring sag., Norm95, Wed, 15 Aug 2012 17:12:27 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I did the suspension work ......so I know what I am talking about. I did crawl under there and replaced bushings, and shimmed the springs for proper ride height. And had the Saab properly aligned.
And the bushings last a lot longer than 30,000 miles.
The design of the Saab 95 suspension is such that in a turn the outside rear tire increases camber to maintain as much of a tire contact patch as possible and it toes in slightly to help the steering angle. So if your springs sag, which they do, both of these will increase while your are going straight and level. Camber increase will not give you cupping, but more wear on the inside of the tire if it is negative camber. Too much toe-in will give you tire cupping. And I had a bad case of that before I fixed the suspension properly.
I would not slot anything. That sure sounds pretty drastic and crude to me.
You can do what you want to your car. I am just reporting what I did and what I learned from the experience. None of this is hearsay, but all first hand experience.
