We have the manually shiftable Automatics in both of our Saabs; a 2006 9-3SC 2.0T and a 2008 9-5 Aero Sedan.
I played with the manual shifting feature in the 9-3 when we first bought the car 6+ years ago. I determined the computer does NOT like the operator to lift their foot off the accelerator when making a gear change input. Keeping your foot position unchanged reduces the gear change time delay from 3 seconds plus to only 1 second but that still seems too slow to me considering the electronics.
The 9-5 has the same transmission so I expect it will behave in the same manner. Truthfully, I am not certain I have ever tried to use the feature in the 9 months I have owned the car.
My sister will soon be forced to relinquish her beloved 2004 9-3 with manual transmission because of extensive left knee damage. Sometime early next year she is anticipating a full knee replacement at only 55 years of age.
