While I don't shift with the paddles in regular driving I had used them
last year when driving in the snow.
I found myself have to drive through 5-6 inches of treacherous snow and was
remarking to my son how I missed my C900 with it's five speed which was downright awesome in the snow.
The paddles if one lifted off the gas, did not shift up. In a word, the paddles kept the car in 2nd or 3rd gear for the length of my trip and acted
like a manual staying in gear down the hills. It would even shift down
on curves.
That day anyway I thanked the Saab engineers for the manual mode.
