The paddle shifters are pretty much useless, and in no way compare to shifting a real manual transmission. We had manuals on our first two 9-5's but our 09 wagon has an automatic (because there were no manuals available). It's a good transmission, and the "sport" setting is a nice improvement over the standard setting, but I still much prefer a manual. I've played with the paddle and auto stick shifters on lots of rental cars, too, and after a few minutes of "fun" I just put the darned thing in "D" and let it shift for itself.
