My old 900S had carbon (I've heard it called bitumen deposits) so I drained all the oil and tried 2 qt of GUNK motor flush and let it sit for 2 days. When I pulled the drain plug a bunch of the deposits came out but there was still a bunch more left in the engine. These were found when I dropped the pan so I don't think that solvents will clean up a severely sludged engine. Maybe it would handle a minor problem.
