I'm interested in the RE970 also Posted by Snowmobile [Email] (#686) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Snowmobile) on Thu, 17 Oct 2013 19:11:38 In Reply to: Re: Another Which Tire Thread..searched archives, Bill h., Thu, 17 Oct 2013 17:26:16 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I've currently got Michelin Pilot Super Sports on our 2004 9-5 Arc 17" wheels (and konis, but otherwise just a plain arc)... 225/45R17... Handling and road feel is amazing with these tires, but not surprisingly they wear pretty fast. 2 summers now and they are done. That is partly because I'm getting some inside wear, like I need another alignment, but tread depth is down everywhere. They are very sticky tires, so they wear fast.
Anyway, my bias is for performance summer tires, and in particular I want great rain performance. The PSS was not bad in the rain (much better than the P6 or Dunlops - the dunlops were awful) but based on comments here and elsewhere, the RE960/970 tires are probably a little more suited to me. I like that they are directional, but some have found directionals to not be great on the 9-5, and sometimes noisy as they wear down. I couldn't care less about noise though. I have directional winter tires and have noticed no issues with those at all.
The other tire I am interested in is the Nokian summers. I had really good luck with the NRH2 on our c900 and I'd buy them again in a heartbeat if they still made them, but I'd be interested in trying their V or Z rated tires on the 9-5. Sadly the summer tires are very hard to get in North America (believe me I tried 2 years ago!)... apparently everyone here wants all seasons... The Nokians are one of the few tires that have an adequate load rating for the 9-5 in 225/45R17 (the michelin PSS is about the only michelin, and I think the RE970 also is good also - just checked tire rack, it is 94W, and $500 for a set of 4 right now!)...
