these cars are really worth very little as is... however, if the body and interior are good, most of the other stuff need not be too much of a big deal to fix, at least if you keep up with basic maintenance... 3 waterpumps in 4 years is crazy. You should ask why. If eg you lose a pump due to a broken belt or pulley, that is an example of an unnecessary cost due to neglected maintenance... otherwise, maybe your tech installed a non-oem pump that doesn't last?
Maybe you guys have more serious oil leaks than everyone else, there is a kind of common leak point, but it's usually not worth worrying about. Maybe you are at really high mileage also, but timing chains last a long time. Do you have a saab independent working on the car or just a general mechanic or a dealer? you will most likely get a more cost-friendly experience from a saab indy because they will know all the saab specific tricks that the general mechanic won't, but they'll charge a rate more comparable to the general guy than the dealer (who will also likely do things "more by the book", ie expensive - not practical for a 10+ year old car)...
Make sure you do 5k mobil1 0w40 oil changes, have pcv#6 in there, and keep up on all the other basics (fluids etc). These cars will punish you if you don't.
