For $3500 for the engine work, perhaps just source a newer used engine. Miles would be a factor. If you have over 200K miles, then I would hesitate to keep going. My 2004 has about 120K miles on it now. Based on what I read her I plan to keep it at least 3 more yearsat which point it will have around 160K miles tops. Not at all an issue for these cars. Even if I have to spend $1500/year it is cheap compared to a newer car which will cost me at least 15-20K with no guarantee of greater reliability then my 9-5
