My experience with 3 different Saabs...
1994 900 SE original T Stat lasted 10 years about 120 k before it stuck shut on a 100 degree day, never replaced a temp sensor in 155k. All the hoses were bad at 120 k.
2000 9-3 SE original T Stat lasted 9 years about 110 k before it stuck shut on another hot summer day, never replaced a temp sensor in 195 k. All hoses were replaced at 100-120 k.
2004 9-5 Aero original T Stat lasted a bit over 10 years or 105 k where it intermittently started dropping to zero on the gage and occasionally setting off P00116 CEL, indicating sticking
open, this time in colder weather below freezing. So I plan to replace T Stat, sensor, and nearby hoses while I am there. New Dexcool as well.
Never replaced one in my 3 old C900 turbos in over 500 k of driving combined.
One in my Ford pickup is 17 years old....
Can't believe many are having such early failures of replacement stats, these are Lo tech items and they have been around forever, no excuse for this...unless all this stuff is now coming from China under different labels? Makes you wonder. Wish they were easier to get at.
