I have an '04 9-5 and changed the Radiator, Thermostat, Upper & Lower Hoses, and Temp Sensor back in May just nine months ago. The car has been fine until today. The ambient temperature dropped 20° in three hours. On the highway the gauge came up a little and then dropped to the "C" and the CEL comes on. I assume it's code P0116 - I'll get it read tomorrow.
The radiator and upper hose were luke warm to the touch. The car had adequate but not killer heat. I had noticed recently the gauge was coming up slower than typical. It sounds like I need to replace a 9 month old t-stat. Is this common? If I replace this new thermostat should I replace the temperature sensor again too? Together they might cost $35. It's frustrating that I just did this job and now have to re-do part of it. I'll try the "Genuine Saab" version instead of the Wahler one.
